    GOLFING TRIPS

East Suffolk’s Heritage Coast is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Aldeburgh, at the heart of this lovely part of the country, is approximately 2 hours from central London. Aldeburgh is an ideal centre for an active holiday, particularly a golfing break, with excellent restaurants and its acclaimed Fish and Chips.

The course at Thorpeness, designed by James Braid, is very close to Aldeburgh and the two courses are a challenging and interesting golfing destination, particularly in winter. Slightly further afield are the heathland courses at Woodbridge and Ipswich (Purdis Heath), both also built on sandy, fast draining soil – ideal for golf at all times of year.

    JUNIORS

OUR JUNIOR SECTION CONTINUES TO GROW

At Aldeburgh, we are proud of the strength and heritage of our junior section. We currently have over 100 Under 18 junior members, boys and girls, of all golfing abilities.
For beginners, the club’s friendly Professional team hold regular, fun and relaxed group coaching sessions throughout the year. They also provide group and individual coaching for better players.

As our juniors develop, we encourage them to use the 9 hole River Course to improve their skills, and gain a handicap. This is the ideal time for them to consider joining the club as junior members. Then, once they have a handicap of 28 or less they can play on the Championship Course.

Junior competitions are held throughout the year on both the River Course and Championship Course, with particular focus on school holidays. Many of these competitions are played for silverware, and some of our trophies are more than 50 years old. We have a growing list of matches with other Suffolk clubs. We also hold our Junior Golf Week in late July, which includes the Aldeburgh Junior Open.

We encourage all our juniors to play, and develop an appreciation for, 2 ball golf, both singles and foursomes.

    DRESS CODE

Aldeburgh Golf Club wishes its members, guests and visitors to enjoy their visits to the Club without having an unduly prescriptive dress code and has a ‘smart casual’ approach to clothing, including shoes, with the emphasis being on the word ‘smart’.

    CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE AND PUTTING GREEN

Golfers and those accompanying them are expected to wear smart attire.

Men’s shirts should have a collar and sleeves and should be tucked in.

Ladies’ shirts/dresses should have a collar but may be sleeveless.

Tailored shorts may be worn but beach/cargo shorts are not considered appropriate.

Men and boys aged over 16 must wear knee-length socks if wearing shorts.

Hats and caps are to be worn the correct way round.

THE RIVER COURSE AND PRACTICE AREAS

The Club adopts a more relaxed approach to clothing on the River Course and the practice areas with T shirts, casual shorts and short socks acceptable.

    CLUBHOUSE AND TERRACE

Men and ladies may wear clothing that is permitted on the Championship Course.

Men and boys over 16 wearing tailored shorts may wear knee-length socks or no socks when wearing casual shoes but may not wear short socks.

The Club recommends that golfers should change out of their golf shoes after they have played although clean golf shoes are permitted in the public rooms in the Clubhouse provided that they do not have spikes or ridges that might damage carpets and other floor surfaces.

Hats and caps are not to be worn in the Clubhouse.

If the appropriate standards of dress are not adhered to, individuals may be advised to change clothing if they wish to continue to enjoy the Club’s facilities on that day.

    TECHNOLOGY

Members and visitors are not permitted to make or receive telephone calls in the Clubhouse or on the golf courses other than in the event of an emergency or to take photographs inside the Clubhouse other than with the consent of the Secretary, for example for the presentation of prizes.

In addition, members and visitors are not permitted to use laptops in the Clubhouse other than with the Secretary’s consent, for example for an organiser to run a competition for a visiting group.
